dogs are friends not food... for me atleast...

Retrogressing some years ago when i was in highschool, i watched this episode in Magandang Gabi Bayan with my folks, ironically during dinnertime, about this locally reknowned delicacy "asocena"... Yep, adobong aso... Seeing those dogs being put in sacks then beaten to the pulp or subjected to other acts of cruelty made me lose my appetite. the scenes were too disturbing for me to handle that remembering the sight still made tears flow down my cheeks. I found it pointless really. Aren't pork, chicken, fish or beef enough?

It's sad really that when such practices come to mind, it's easily incorporated with Asians, particularly, Koreans, Chinese and yes, Filipinos. The worst part? It's never easy to pass around petitions against these inhumane practices without at one point, showing racial contempt against us Asians, or sounding rather biased and emotionally invoked as most of those running these campaigns have dogs or cats for pets. furthermore, banning such practices will only increase the possibility of dog trade in the black market, hence, dog (or possibly, cat) slaughtering for food might double.

I guess coming from a family who have treated dogs more than just furry companions but as family as well, i may never understand why such practices, though gruesome as it may seem, will not easily be erradicated, regardless of numerous petitions and campaigns against these acts. Well, i guess old dogs will never learn new tricks...
